If you’ve ever been interested in buying an exercise jumpsuit, the logistics of working out in one may have made you change your mind. For some, the idea of working out in a unitard is just stressful…
How do I even get in and out of this thing?
What if I need to pee?
Will it give me a camel toe?
Will I need to wear a sports bra?
Uh oh, how about wedgies?
To be honest, these are all valid concerns!
I overcame my fears and tried on the Girlfriend Collective unitard a few weeks ago. Now I can’t imagine why I haven’t been working out in jumpsuits all my life! I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more workout jumpsuits to review, so if you come across any, please let me know.
If you’re thinking about dipping your toes into the exercise jumpsuit world, here’s my review of the Girlfriend Collective Unitard to help you decide!

Girlfriend Collective Unitard
The Girlfriend Collective Unitard is a full-length (28″ inseam) one-piece designed for low to medium impact activities. The unitard has a front rise seam and waist seam that sits right at your natural waist depending on your torso length.
The fabric is smooth to touch and has a high compression fit. With a triangular-shaped gusset and 21% spandex content, the Girlfriend Collective unitard is comfortable and can stretch for days, but with a bit of a fight. Sit down, grab a drink, and slip into your unitard slowly- you’ll need some time, trust me!
Although the fabric is opaque, the unitard clings to your body and will show every bump and fold- and that includes nipples!
This Girlfriend Collective unitard is squatproof, but you’ll definitely need to wear seamless panties (preferably a thong) underneath to avoid VPL. Or you can try going commando to avoid panty lines altogether.
While the thin straps and scoop-neck design may not provide the support you can get from a high impact sports bra, the high-compression fabric and adjustable straps do a decent job of keeping your girls in place. You can adjust the straps just enough so that your boobs feel more held in, but you’ll still notice some bounce when you workout.
Also, the waist fits REALLY snug, which is surprising since there is no elastic in the waist. So for anyone who likes a gentle squeeze in the tummy area, this jumpsuit is a winner!
“Overall, the Girlfriemd Collective unitard is compressive, comfortable, squatproof, and supportive enough for low to medium impact activites (and maybe high impact workouts if you wear a sports bra underneath). “
Plus, you can feel good in your Girlfriend unitard knowing that your cute workout gear has enabled “36 water bottles diverted from landfills, 26.8 lbs of CO2 prevented, 4.48 gallons of water saved”.
Girlfriend Collective Unitard Sizing Review
For reference, I’m a 27″ waist, 32″ bust (DD cup), 38″ hip, 5’8″ tall, 31″ inseam, and US clothing size 4. I bought the Girlfriend Collective unitard in size small. It fits perfectly around my waist and hips, and the 28″ inseam unitard stretches enough to fall right at my ankle.
PS: There’s a separate size chart for bodysuits. If you’re in between sizes, go with a size on the chart that’s closest to both your hip and waist measurements.
What I loved
Here’s what I loved about the Girlfriend unitard:
This unitard is well-made: the seams are placed in comfortable positions; the stitches don’t fray; the design is simple yet flattering, and the fabric has the perfect amount of compression and stretch!
To be honest, I didn’t trust that the front rise seam would work, but it does. I’m glad to report that the Girlfriend unitard is camel-toe free!
The unitard has enough structure that there’s no extra fabric bunching up and no seams making their way up to your hoo-ha. It fits like a glove and moves with you- you might even forget you’re wearing it!
What I’d Improve
A few downsides of the Girlfriend unitard:
The compressive fabric and adjustable straps allow for a decent level of support, but I would like to see this unitard made with thick adjustable straps and bust paddings- that would change the game!
Should You Buy The Girlfriend Collective Unitard?
- Perfect for low (no sports bra) to high (with a sports bra underneath) impact activities.
- Great for yoga, pilates, weight-lifting, and lounging.
- Perfect for athleisure styling.
- Good for the frugal active chick. This workout jumpsuit is on the affordable side compared to other brands that go for $100-$250!
How To Care For Your Girlfriend Collective Activewear
Avoid excess heat from washing in hot water, tumble-drying, or ironing as this can affect the strength of the fibers and degrade the fabric features.
Instead, wash your unitard in cold water, and use a drying rack. Also, avoid using fabric softener since it can seal the fabric, causing the fabric to become less breathable.
Place your workout jumpsuit in a mesh bag before throwing them in the washer. This will ensure that the fabric doesn’t get snagged by parts from other clothing.
Follow these steps to keep your girlfriend collective unitard in pristine condition!
